About Us

Our Mission

To help our members manage their financial life by providing highly personal products and services.

Our History

RT Federal Credit Union is a not-for-profit, member-owned financial institution whose charter was granted through the National Credit Union Administration in the name of Rome Teachers Federal Credit Union. We were founded in 1958 by seven employees of the Rome Consolidated School District to serve its employees and their immediate family members. Our purpose is to promote thrift among our members, by affording them an opportunity for accumulating their savings, and to create for them a source of credit for provident or productive purposes.

Over the next 64 years, our products and services offered grew, along with the employee groups we served increasing to twelve local school districts, as well as the Jervis Public Library, Rome Community Theater, and the Lewis County Health System.

In 2022, the Board of Directors made the decision to seek a community charter that would allow us to serve all who have a bond with our existing local school communities and adding additional districts bringing us to thirty-six school districts. In 2023 (our 65th year), we then changed our name from Rome Teachers Federal Credit Union to RT Federal Credit Union in our desire to reflect our new inclusive charter while also keeping our foundation always present.

We spent many years operating within a building of the Rome City School District, until 1998 when we moved into our own building, where we are located today. In 2017, we opened a drive-up Interactive Teller Machine in Camden, NY and hope to increase our footprint in the future.
